However, if new measures publicised by the Express are anything to go by, passport woes could all be a thing of the past…
The government has officially launched its online passport renewal service, which takes an average of just 10 minutes to complete.
It comes after the tech was trialled with 240,000 people last year by the HM Passport Office. After encouraging results, the process is now ready to roll-out progressively across the UK.
You’ll also be able to bid bon voyage to the uncomfortable, expensive and badly-lit photo booth, as applicants will soon be able to upload a digital photo from their tablet or smartphone.
Once the application is complete, it will take around three weeks for the document to arrive.
Immigration Minister Brandon Lewis commented on the news: “This latest offering is a key part of the Home Office’s drive to transform the way we deliver our services through digitisation.
“It is designed to improve efficiency and convenience by providing a modern and secure service to millions of passport holders and applicants.”
