Do I need to declare Kidney Disease on my travel insurance?

When it comes to purchasing travel insurance, honesty truly is the best policy, especially regarding pre-existing medical conditions like Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). It might feel tempting to omit mentioning your CKD in hopes of snagging a lower premium, but this decision can have far-reaching implications. Not declaring your condition could invalidate your insurance should you need to make a claim, leaving you vulnerable to substantial out-of-pocket expenses for medical treatments abroad.

Insurance providers base their policies on a risk assessment. By declaring your CKD, you enable them to offer cover that's accurately tailored to your specific health needs. Declaring your CKD is a step toward securing peace of mind during your travels, ensuring you're both protected and prepared for any medical needs that may arise.

When comparing quotes with us, you'll be asked to answer some questions based on the specific nature of your condition. The answers you provide enable us to provide you with quotes from a range of different travel insurance providers that you can compare from.

What Kidney Diseases can be covered by travel insurance?

When considering travel insurance, individuals with kidney conditions might wonder which diseases can be covered. The good news is, we work with a specialist panel of travel insurance providers that can offer coverage for a range of kidney diseases, ensuring that travellers can enjoy their journeys with peace of mind.

Conditions such as Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), kidney stones, nephropathy, and those undergoing dialysis can generally find cover. However, the specifics can vary from one provider to another, and some conditions may require a more detailed assessment to tailor the insurance policy accurately.

For instance, if you're on dialysis, providers will want to know how often you undergo treatment and whether your condition is stable. Similarly, for those with kidney stones, factors like the frequency of episodes and any related complications might be considered.

The key is to provide complete and accurate information about your condition to find a policy that best suits your needs, ensuring that you're well-protected on your travels.

What is covered by Kidney Disease travel insurance?

Securing travel insurance that includes cover for kidney disease is crucial for anyone wanting to travel with confidence. Typically, kidney disease travel insurance aims to cover the unique set of challenges that individuals with kidney conditions may face. This form of insurance usually includes coverage for medical expenses, such as hospital stays and treatments related to your condition, ensuring that unexpected medical issues do not become financial burdens.

Additionally, kidney disease travel insurance often extends to cover the cost of emergency repatriation, should you need to return to the UK under medical advice. This is particularly reassuring for travellers, as it insures against substantial costs associated with medical flights or special arrangements required for safe return home.

Beyond medical coverage, these policies typically also offer compensation for trip cancellations or interruptions due to medical issues, loss of medication, and support services to assist in finding local medical facilities capable of providing necessary treatments.

It's important to read the fine print and understand the specifics of what your chosen policy covers. Insurance providers might have different definitions and cover limits, so ensuring that the insurance policy aligns with your individual needs is vital. Remember, the aim of kidney disease travel insurance is to mitigate the risks associated with travelling with such a condition, empowering you to explore the world with the comfort of knowing you're well-covered.

A pre-existing is any medical condition for which medical advice, diagnosis, care, or treatment was recommended or received before applying for a travel insurance policy. For some conditions, we'll need to know if they have ever been present, whilst for others if they occurred within a certain period.

It is simple and quick to do! After you've told us about your trip details and answered some medical history questions you can add your pre-existing conditions, one by one, for each traveller. You'll only need to enter your details once, it's all online and there's no need to call, or provide details of your conditions in writing.

Single Trip insurance is for one-off, individual trips and will cover your specified travel dates. This is usually up to 45 days; however, some insurance providers can cover up to 94 days. If you’re not a frequent traveller, single trip cover is a great option and will likely be cheaper than an annual multi-trip cover.

If you travel 2 or more times a year, annual trip cover may very well save you money. The maximum duration of any trip will always be specified and will vary by provider. But don't worry, when you get a quote, we'll ask you what your maximum trip length is and only show you quotes that match!
